Speciality Portraits for Pianist Anna Chiu with and without the piano
It was great to work with pianist Anna Chiu and Stephanie again—this time for a portrait session capturing both solo and duo shots. Having previously photographed Stephanie, I was delighted when she got in touch to book a session for the two of them. They planned two back-to-back portrait shoots with a small overlap in between, making the most of the time to get some duo images—perfect for their marketing materials when performing together.
We chose Anna’s flat in Didsbury as the location, which worked beautifully with its grand piano—an ideal setting for musicians. As is often the case with musicians, a few photos with their instrument were essential, so we began the shoot with some portraits of Anna at the piano. To keep the focus on Anna, I used a neutral backdrop beside the piano, and later in Photoshop, I removed any distracting elements like light switches or doors.
Anna had planned a couple of outfits for the session, so we made sure to get some headshots and piano shots in each look. This gave them a versatile set of images for a variety of marketing purposes—whether for social media, promotional materials, or performances.
Booking the duo’s session back-to-back was a fantastic way to maximise the time and location, allowing us to squeeze in some group photos between the individual sessions. It’s a great way to combine efforts, share a location, and save some costs.
