Why I Choose Squarespace Over WordPress

Many of my clients come to me with a Wordpress website and though I’ll happily update their website for them, I’ll nearly always advise them to move their website from Wordpress to Squarespace. After working with the three main platforms (Squarespace, Wordpress and Wix) I decided to commit to Squarespace and I thought it would be good to explain why in this article.

It looks professional without the constant coding battle

In my experience, Wix always looks a bit too DIY out of the box. WordPress can look really snazzy, but usually only when you are already deeply confident with design or comfortable writing custom code.

With Squarespace, even if you are working from a template framework, your online space looks clean and balanced with minimal effort. Because the platform natively handles layout additions like smooth special effects, element grouping, and scrolling pins, I can build an incredibly dynamic layout for you without cluttering the back-end with heavy, broken code.

You get total control over your own after-care

This is the main reason I steer small businesses, musicians and independent creators toward making the switch. I want you to have actual control over your website once it is live.

Instead of forcing you to log into a confusing dashboard, it gives you a clean environment where everything sits in one place. Your shop, your client booking system, your invoicing layouts, and your email newsletters are handled under a single roof. If we need to add on external tracking like Google Analytics, it connects seamlessly. It makes everyday maintenance clear and simple, even if you don't feel particularly at ease with technology.

A website is a living plant, not a static brochure

There used to be an old idea that you would pay a design company to programme a website, launch it, and never touch it again unless your phone number changed. Those days are completely over. Unless you want to throw a fortune away on digital marketing costs.

Websites are a lot like plants; they need regular light and water to stay healthy. To score well in Google rankings and keep search engines happy, you have to keep your SEO up to date and feed your site with fresh material. When search engines see regular updates, they perceive your hub as active and rank you higher in local results, making it easy for new people to discover your work organically.

Using your blog section for clean Client Stories or personal journal updates is the best way to show people how you work and who you are as a company. It gives you a much wider net of search keywords than a standard services page ever could. When your content is honest and engaging, visitors don't just click and leave, they linger, look around, and eventually wander over to see how you can work together.

foubography

I’m a photographer and Squarespace web designer based in Altrincham, South Manchester. I specialise in portrait, landscape and opera photography and also offer a “complete website package” where I can offer headshots, photos of your business and design your new website so you can manage it yourself afterwards.

Over the years I’ve built a portfolio career as a professional photographer, opera singer, wardrobe assistant and singing teacher. I have a MMus from the RNCM, a Bachelor in Theatre Sciences and Musicology from Ghent University and I’m a qualified teacher. When my son was born in 2021 I quickly realised that an opera career wasn’t as compatible with being a mum as much as I would like, so I decided to change my focus completely to photography and web design.

I prefer working with daylight in casual surroundings while having a chat making sure you’re at ease and relaxed. It’s the little moments in between that make the best shots!

Feel free to get in touch if you’d like to work with me!
