Anna Chiu: Speciality Portraits with and without the piano

I had previously worked with Stephanie and was delighted when she got in touch again asking if I was free to take some headshots for her and her duo partner Anna Chiu. She proposed two back-to-back portrait sessions with an overlapping window in the middle (for a couple of group shots of her and Anna), which they could use for marketing purposes when performing together.

It’s common for musicians to require a few photos with their instrument, so we decided we would do the shoot on location at Anna’s flat in Didsbury where she has a grand piano. We used the background I had brought to neutralise the wall next to the piano and I edited out any unwanted features (like the light switches and the door) behind Anna in Photoshop.

Anna had planned a couple of different outfits, so we made sure to get headshots as well as photos at the piano before moving on to the next outfit. The different outfits would result in photos that could be used in different circumstances depending on the occasion.

Booking Anna’s and Stephanie’s portrait sessions back-to-back created the perfect opportunity to add on a group photography shoot in between sessions. It’s a great way to combine efforts, locations and save some money.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you’d like to book a session using the button below or feel free to send an email if you’d like to book an alternative time.

I’m a photographer and Squarespace web designer based in Altrincham, South Manchester. I specialise in portrait, landscape and opera photography and also offer a “complete website package” where I can offer headshots, photos of your business and design your new website so you can manage it yourself afterwards.

Over the years I’ve built a portfolio career as a professional photographer, opera singer, wardrobe assistant and singing teacher. I have a MMus from the RNCM, a Bachelor in Theatre Sciences and Musicology from Ghent University and I’m a qualified teacher. When my son was born in 2021 I quickly realised that an opera career wasn’t as compatible with being a mum as much as I would like, so I decided to change my focus completely to photography and web design.

I prefer working with daylight in casual surroundings while having a chat making sure you’re at ease and relaxed. It’s the little moments in between that make the best shots!

Feel free to get in touch if you’d like to work with me!
