Sandra Dugdale

One of the most sought after coloratura sopranos of her generation, Sandra’s repertoire of over eighty roles ranges from Monteverdi and Mozart, through Strauss and Sullivan, to Shostakovich and Janacek. 
She studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and made her debut as Despina with Glyndebourne Touring Opera.
As versatile an actress as she is a singer, she has worked with the world’s greatest conductors (including Sir Charles Mackerras, Sir Mark Elder, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Sir Edward Downes, Sir Charles Groves and Richard Hickox) and legendary opera directors (including John Copley, John Cox, Glen Byam Shaw and Wendy Toye) at the Royal Opera House, English National Opera (where she was a principal for nine years), Opera North, Scottish Opera, Welsh National Opera, in the USA, France, Austria, Spain, Italy, Denmark and Hong Kong.
She has recorded on film, television and radio, including Lieder, French song, opera and operetta, and has directed, giving invaluable experience to young singers.
She has been a Senior Vocal Tutor at The Royal Northern College of Music since 1996, and former students have gone on to perform at Rome Opera, Zurich Opera, Salzburg Festival, Theatre du Chatelet, Glyndebourne, English National Opera and Opera North.
